2017 Summer Reading Program

Our annual summer reading program goes until August 29! Click on the banner below to get to our summer reading website. Each book you read and log counts not only towards our summer reading program but also your school's and the CT Governor's Summer Reading Challenge.
*New this year: families with multiple children can use the Family Management Portal to access all their children's accounts with just one parent username and password.

Special Programs

 

  • Joy of Puzzles: Tuesday, August 22 from 4:00-5:30 PM for ages 8+. Eric Berlin, author of The Potato Chip Puzzles, will teach kids how to make different puzzles, talk about "real life" puzzles that people have had to solve over the years, and hold a puzzle game show for the audience, complete with prizes! Registration required.
  • LEGO┬« Fun!: Wednesday, August 23 at 3:00 PM for ages 7+. Come make your own unique LEGO┬« creations. We have thousands of bricks to build with! Drop-in.
  • Harold's Purple-Palooza: Thursday, August 24 from 6:00-7:30 PM. Calling all Windham kindergartners! You're invited to a special back-to-school event. Thanks to an anonymous donor named Harold, kindergarten children will receive a beautiful hard copy of Harold and the Purple Crayon! We'll be partying with all things purple, arts & crafts, snacks, and games! Purple attire is encouraged. Registration required.
  • Kairo the Reading Dog: Tuesday, September 19 from 6:30-7:15 PM. Kairo the Reading Education Assistance Dog from Cold Noses, Warm Hearts will be at the library for children to read to her. Bring a favorite book or choose from one of ours. Drop-in.
  • Wii Games at the Library: Kids and teens open Wii - play on a first come first served basis. If the program room is not in use, ask at the desk for the key to play our Wii. Choose from the following games: Cars, Mario Kart, Wii Sports, and Wii Sports Resort. Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Guidelines for use

Story Times

  • Mother Goose Rhyme Time: Mondays at 10:30 AM for ages birth-3. October 16, 23, 30; November 13, 20, 27; December 4, 11, 18. Enjoy a rhyme time program with music, movement, stories, and more. Drop-in.
  • Thursday Evening Stories & More: Thursdays at 6:30 PM for ages 4-7. September 14, 21, 28; October 19, 26; November 16, 30; December 7, 14, 21. Program goal is to instill a love of the library through books, music, and art and to help your child learn to feel comfortable in independent social settings. Drop-in, up to 12 children.
